Your Journey from Oracle EBS to Oracle Fusion

" What is the future of Oracle EBS ? , Should I switch to Fusion , Is there no use of my learning of EBS till today ? " ..If  you are one of oracle consultant(11i , R12) or D2K expert , you must have heard of any one of these questions..Right..

Here , I will try to answer them as per my capability and will guide you on moving from EBS to fusion, lets go one by one..

1) Future of EBS : 

EBS is one of the Pillar of oracle and oracle has invested years to make it stable,

and today EBS is in its Mature Stage. Although Industries are moving to different cloud system and different ERP , but there is huge number of customer who are in EBS  and does not want to change.

Specially R12 Financial System,I have seen customer upgrading all other modules but they still want to continue Finance in R12.

So , Yes new project for EBS has decreased , But the GAME is still ON with large existing customer base having AMS project.

2) Should I switch to fusion , Is there no use of my learning of EBS till today ? 

In my view , we should keep learning and why not taste the Best practices of Industries brought up in Oracle Fusion which has taken best of every current ERP.

Now , if you are from Oracle EBS , then you will be very happy to know that landing to Fusion is nothing but switching from manual gear to automatic.

Most of  the concepts of Oracle EBS are inherited like value set , dff , fast formula , BI Report and even table almost are most , so If I segregate this in terms of Technical and Functional then :

Functional Consultant : 

For functional consultant , you just have to learn new navigation because process almost are same. You have fast formula , value set , DFF  , lookup here as well .

Approval process which was AME in EBS , inside cloud is same with Rule and condition and approval group written inside that.

Enterprise structure has got new terms like division , business unit , department .

But you can easily map them with business group , organisation of EBS.

Responsibility here has been changed to Role which is part of RBAC protocol 

So with few tutorials and training , learning fusion will be really fun .

Technical Consultant :

Good news for you is that you have almost same tables here.

• Reporting is same as here we have BI reports , there is a UI to write a sql and you have same RTF building and integrating , Other then this you have OTBI reports which is just drag drop columns from subject area and create a report
• Inbound Interface : There is a new concept to load data like FBDL in finance and HDL in HCM ,which basically is to get the data is specific template and then running the process (concurrent program of ebs) to load the data.
• PAAS : There are customer who buy some PAAS product and here you can tune your carrier in middleware like move from OAF to ADF , SOA BPEL , ODI etc

In nut shell , Yes you need to learn some new things but with your experience in EBS and being familiar with EBS terminologies its just a CAKE WALK .

Oracle has created very detailed documents for every thing , Yes I say everything , from finding tables to process to technical guideline.
